Kali Knife fighting & escrima
Kali knife and Eskrima fighting is a system that originated in its first form in India and then migrated East to the Philippines. This is one of several systems in that style that share very similar techniques with Eskrima and Arnis. The system itself also shares many great qualities with our Chinese system of Splashing hands which is an open hand system that went on to form the basis of Lima Lama created by my Great Grand Teacher Sifu Lifiti and so the two work very well together. Having first learnt Kali in the UK and then travelling to the Philippines and the region of Bulacan to expand my skills, I have built a great love and respect for the art. In this system a series of basic principles expand out to create a complete system using both a single or double blade. Practice is undertaken with a fighting stick to build your skills through intense repetition and dedication, learning to attack from all angles, damaging the opponents’ limbs, thus removing any threat and then moving onto the main body to finish the fight. Once the basic movements have been mastered you will learn trapping and takedowns to broaden your skill set. Speed and accuracy along with a good sense of rhythm and timing will be developed during your practice. Footwork drills and conditioning will build a strong and mobile body and in advanced teachings you will also learn aspects that will aid in the development of other fighting styles to create a well-rounded system of study.
